Anyone thinks HXH 1999 should have been continued instead of re

I'm one of those who watched hunter x hunter in the start of 2000 until it finished. I liked it a lot and then got frustrated because the ending of 1999 was incomplete and missing a lot of shit However, when i watched HXH 2011, i was strongly dissatisfied and only loved it after Greed Island. Now it's my favorite because it continued with the story. Did anyone ever had the same though? Why the remake when it could've been a vintage on-going work like one piece, case closed..etc. Or am i the only one whose attached to something i watched when i was younger?
