The tiebreaks of the final and the 3rd place matches were played on 24 August.  Magnus Carlsen started the rapid section of his encounter against Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa with a victory as Black. The second game ended in a draw, which allowed the Norwegian grandmaster to win the FIDE World Cup for the first time in his career.
