November/22/2010 -- Roland Walton, Tim Hortons chief operations officer for Canada buys a coffee on his debit card from Jane Salem. Coffee lovers rejoice! After years of steadfast resistance, Tim Hortons, Canada's iconic coffee chain, is bowing to consumer pressure and will now allow customers to pay by debit in their stores, the Star has learned. The move comes about three years after the company allowed consumers the option of paying by MasterCard PayPass in addition to cash and preloaded Tims cards. The Oakville-based company is set to make the announcement about its national debit rollout on Tuesday but is giving us an exclusive interview with Roland Walton, its chief operations officer for Canada, ahead of time.
