The entire crew of 60 men and women has been on extensive sailor training for several months. The purpose of this voyage is to celebrate the 1000 years anniversary for Danish King Cnut The Great's - or Canute - conquest of England by visiting 8 ports on the Danish island of Zealand and together with two other but smaller Viking ships to be the spearhead around the festivities for celebrating the Viking king. The crew is also part of an ongoing archaeological research: By sailing this 30 meter long ship they develop the practice in seamanship, which would make it possible for the Vikings to traverse large distances. During 2007 the Sea Stallion sailed to Dublin, Ireland, and returned in 2008. The ship has it's base at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, Denmark. Get premium, high resolution news photos at getty
